Intolerance test kits

Not gonna lie, not too long ago I also didn’t have a clue who to believe regarding nutrition and health. I had no idea how to do proper background research and pretty much believed anything I was told, because who doesn’t want to be healthy? Sure, I’lll buy this £300 food intolerance test kit, with all the extra add ons for who knows how much extra more. Take my money, just tell me how I can be healthy by avoiding foods I’m intolerant to. 💸

Interestingly, I got tested for almost 200 food items and my top 3 supposed intolerances were avocados, eggs and cashews. Funny that I was eating these foods at least 3 times a week and never even noticed a reaction. The list was definitely suspicious because all the other food that I ate pretty often came up as red flagged intolerances, while something I barely ever had came up as green light, meaning no intolerance. The most ridiculous thing was that I was apparently intolerant to gluten, when I know I am almost definitely not because I’ve never had an issue. And all of this BS came from a reputable, expensive service in the UK. 👎🏼

So, what’s the deal with intolerance test kits?! Well, in short, it’s a complete waste of money.

Food allergies are normally tested by assessing IgE (immediate reactions), non-IgE (delayed reactions) or both (mixed reactions).

However, food intolerance test test for different IgG’s, which show whether antibodies against a certain food are present. This is an incorrect measure, because expressing antibodies to the foods we eat is a very normal reaction, which basically shows the level of exposure to a certain food. This explains why I was “intolerant” to everything I ate the most. Some research even hints that IgG antibodies are related to food tolerance, rather than Intolerance.

Moral of the post: stop buying these tests, whether they come as home kits or are done in clinic.

The only legit way to test for dairy intolerance is the hydrogen test, where you consume a drink with high levels of lactose and hydrogen levels are measured at regular intervals.

Some legit ways to test for gluten intolerance include testing the levels of tTG-IgA antibodies in the blood, performing an endoscopy of the small intestine or taking a biopsy. A biopsy is regarded as the most accurate method.

For any potential allergies or intolerances, please consult with your doctor, not the hippie type, who also offers a colonic to go with the test “to clean your gut of the leftover intolerances”.🤯🤦🏼‍♀️🤬
